Three Special Spring Flowers

There are three flowers I look for each spring, the White Rhodora, a colour morph of the Rhodora, the Golden Heather and the White Lady's Slipper Orchid, a colour morph of the Pink Lady's Slipper Orchid.

I have found the White Rhodora in only one location. It blooms late, mid June, and quickly fades. This year it was decimated by the heavy rains of the last few days.

The Golden Heather blooms mid to late June in full sun on rough terrain, in this case an abandoned gravel driveway in the Duncan's Cove Nature Reserve. It is also found in the Herring Cove back lands.

My last special wildflower is the White Lady's Slipper Orchid, a colour morph of the Pink Lady's Slipper Orchid. It is easy to find "almost pure white" Pink Lady's Slipper Orchids but they are usually small and show slivers of pink. This year Laura and I were very lucky to find this large White Lady's Slipper Orchid, pure white, at Card Lake Provincial Park.
