Golden Heather and Other Local Wildflowers

June 27, 2014  •  Leave a Comment

Laura and I visited the Chebucto Head area last Sunday in fear of missing the blooming of the Golden Heather. It has just begun to blossom, not like many wildflowers which blossom out together, but more like a gradual sweep across the plant much like an incoming tide.

The Dragon's Mouth Orchid is also in bloom. I find this orchid very difficult to photograph with or without fill-in flash. I always seem to lose detail.

The Arctic Blueberry is showing berries and I hope to photograph it on my next visit. Another local wildflower is the Blue Flag Iris, a common wildflower, but it still stuns us with it's beauty. There is no sign yet of the Slender Lady's Tresses Orchid or the Green Adder's Mouth Orchid, although the latter is in leaf.
