The Harvest Supermoon of 2014The harvest moon this year was also a supermoon since it was closer to our earth than during other times of the year. Usually when I photograph a moon when its rising or near the horizon the photograph is compromised by atmospheric disturbances and contamination resulting in poor quality images often severely distorted and fuzzy. That was not the case this time. The orange colour was also dominant since when the moon is low in the sky its light has to travel a greater distance through our atmosphere and the shorter wave lengths of light are absorbed permitting only the reds and oranges to pass through.
