Natural Ice Sculpture

In the gorge beside the trail to Duncan Reef is Champagne Dam. This small dam was built during the second world war to provide water to the folks defending Halifax harbour. It overflows as all dams do to prevent pressure along the full face of the dam. This forms a sheet of ice from the dam to the trail and down to the Atlantic Ocean. A great deal of care is needed when traversing this area in the winter.
