Purple GallinuleThe Purple Gallinule is a rare bird which is not reported annually. It belongs to a small family of birds called Gruiformes. Most members of this family of birds are hard to find and see although some like the Sora is often heard in our large fresh water marshes and the American Coot is common in preferred habitat often in winter. This Purple Gallinule was beside the Crescent Beach Road and was working the seed heads of local grasses. It seemed to prefer grass seed close to the road but it knew enough to retreat into the bush when a car passed by. Purple Gallinule
