Painted Trillium

June 06, 2025  •  Leave a Comment

I visited my Painted Trillium patch early again this year with only a few flower heads blooming. The sign at the entrance to the trail, "Warning bear in area", wasn't a motivator. This area in Mount Uniacke Museum Park used to be a favourite of mine until the ticks moved in. It was reliable for Black-backed Woodpecker, Barred Owl, Bay-breasted Warbler, Swainson's Thrush and Eastern wood-Pewee. The overall bird count this year is way down. I suspect that many birds are nesting further north.
